What’s the first thing a taxi driver will ask wherever you are in the world? Answer: “Where to?” If you can’t answer this question then you’re heading nowhere. It’s the same with the brain. Just talking problems gives the brain no direction. Focusing on what’s not working, what’s broken, who’s to blame etc. is like saying to the taxi driver: “I hate it here, take me away!” Still the driver has no direction. Destroying your own performance happens casually. Constructing performance requires intention. In any situation, the starting question to get the best from yourself is always: “What does success look like?” In elite sport there is a saying: “If you can’t describe outstanding then you haven’t a chance of creating it.” So engage your brain - be clear on outcomes. Before exercising, ask: “What do I want from the session?” In the morning getting ready for work, ask: “How would I know I was at my best today given the challenges coming my way?” You don’t climb a mountain by staring at base camp. Think forwards. Live forwards.

Moving

If you want a positive mindset then exercise. People who are physically active are happier with their lives. This is true whatever the activity.
